Development Technology of Long Glass Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene Composites for Electric Vehicle Battery Housings

■ Flame-retardant polypropylene long glass fiber composite
▶ Thermoplastic long-fiber composites (>10 mm)with resins offer high strength, modulus,
and impact resistance, suited for EV and high-frequency communication parts.
▶ In electric vehicles, the battery casing protects against shocks and fire. As lighter designs
are needed, plastics are increasingly replacing metals for battery housings.

■ Technology Development
The FR-PP-LFT is a composite based on polypropylene, reinforced with long fibers, high-impact PP, and flame retardants. Optimized formulation and processing deliver both high rigidity and strong flame resistance.
▶ Phosphorus–Nitrogen Intumescent System: Halogen-free PP masterbatch designed for
low loading and synergistic performance, achieving UL94 V-0 at 0.8 mm with improved
     impact strength.
▶ Dual-Masterbatch LFT Process: In LFT injection, combining PP-GF masterbatch with P–
N flame-retardant masterbatch ensures agent dispersion and fiber integrity, enhancing
     molding quality.
