Green Methanol Production Technology

■ Technology Overview
Methanol is an important basic chemical with a global consumption of about 100 million tons in 2021, and is expected to grow to 500 million tons by 2050. The production of green methanol from carbon dioxide can replace the traditional petrochemical process, and effectively convert carbon dioxide, which is an indispensable key technology for the net-zero carbon emission generation.
 
■ Applications
• Utilization of carbon dioxide captured from industrial flue gas (power plants, steel, cement, chemical industry, and other high-carbon emission industries)
• Taiwan imports 1.5 million tons of methanol every year. Methanol produced by this technology can supply low-carbon emission methanol with a product value of more than NT$15.2 billion. The process reduces ~2.1 million tons of carbon dioxide emission
• Methanol can be converted into CO, acetic acid, olefins, aromatics and other basic raw materials for the chemical industry

Specialty Polyolefin Materials and Catalyst

■ Technology Overview
The global polyolefin production capacity continues to expand, and commodity polyolefins is facing huge competition in market. Therefore, it is urgent to establish high-value-added and high-performance polyolefins in Taiwan. (Post-)Metallocene based polyolefins has the advantages of high activity, low PDI, uniform comonomer distribution, and high purity, and are especially suitable for special utilization. Our laboratory establishes polyolefin catalyst and polymerization technology, which accelerates domestic manufacturers to develop next-generation polyolefin products.
 
■ Applications
• Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene(UHMWPE):Green Energy(Electric-Cars/Wind Energy), Medical Industry(artificial joint /IV Bag), Aerospace(rope/ composite material)
• Metallocene based Polypropylene:Medicine & Hygiene product, ex. IV bag, Scrub, Mask, HEPA filter, Water filter…etc.
