Consumption of plastic packaging is estimated at 78 million tons, yet only about 2% currently enters closed-loop recycling. This shortfall stems from the multi-material packaging, the multilayer heterogeneous laminates are non-recyclable. Compounding HDPE with ethylene copolymer elastomers and then applying a secondary stretching process yields an or iented polyolefin film that offers high strength and transparency, enabling it to substitute for the outer protective layer. Finally, using an ethylene–acrylic acid adhesive laminate stretch film with metallized polyethylene and a polyethylene sealant layer, we successfully made a mono-material polyolefin packaging with high strength and excellent barrier performance.
